November Happy Hour
Happy hour time, last one of 2015!
AT LONG LAST THERE WILL BE HOME BREW AGAIN! Though that’s not exactly true as has Theral picked up the slack with a couple ales while renovations had the Scott brewery shut down.
Bring photos and regale us, over a beer, with stories of your latest caving adventures or ask about how to get into caving in California and meet some fun people. If you have photos to share of a recent caving trip, bring a URL, USB drive or a laptop and we’ll show them on the big screen. If nothing else I can talk about trip planning for an upcoming expedition to the Philippines.
Drop by anytime after 7pm. There will be beer, wine, snacks and lentil soup.
Location:
Mark & Elaine Scott’s house
Caver Happy Hour in San Francisco Tomorrow, Tuesday October 20, 7pm
Vertical practice tomorrow, Tuesday, 6 October
Howdy!
Yes, it’s that time of the month again! Time to join your fellow cavers
and get high. By climbing on rope, that is.
Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, 6 October, for our monthly vertical practice.
We can practice from something very basic to something very complex.
Choose your own adventure!
Our kind hosts will be Bill and Peri Frantz. You can arrive anytime
after 6:30, and after dinner we will get on rope to practice. Please
bring a helmet and a headlamp, and a jacket, since we will be practicing
outdoors. If you don’t have yet a helmet or headlamp, do come still
since we will have a couple of extras. Bring your vertical gear if you
have it, and if not, we will also have a couple of extras.
The address to the Frantz Haunted House, Cider Mill and Corn Maze is:
16345 Englewood Ave
Los Gatos, CA 95032

Vertical practice moved to this coming week
Howdy!
There won’t be a vertical practice tomorrow (1 September), we will hold
it the following week (8 September) at the Peri and Bill’s place in Los
Gatos.
Have a great week, and see you soon!

August Members Meeting
Members Meeting (7:30pm – 9:00pm)
The cave itself was formed around 21,000 years ago by the waves of rising Pleistocene Lake Lahontan. In the mid-1920’s, the cave was found by four school boys, the first 20th century humans to do so. The cave has been excavated by archaeologists three times: once in 1940, again in 1951, and finally a large excavation in 1979-1980 by the American Museum of Natural History. A high proportion of the artifacts found in Hidden Cave were unbroken and arranged in concentrations. That led to the conclusion that 3,500 to 3,800 years ago people used the cave more as a cache (a place to store objects for later) than for habitation.

Instructions on how to get here are at:

Please note that we don’t have much parking at the house; people should use the alternate parking shown on the map. If somebody does come to the house, be aware that Google Maps gets things right but Apple apparently does not, directing you to a bridge that closed a couple of years ago.
We will have a BBQ, so people should bring something for the grill and something to share.
